Read : Genesis 22
Thoughts from: Val Edwards
What a hard story for a parent to read, yet quite an illustration of trust in a faithful God.
Step-by-step, Abraham proceeds to cut and load the wood onto a donkey, travel 3 days, answer Isaac’s questions, build an altar, bind his son (there’s even a knife)….the tension for the reader is excruciating, but Abraham in true, simple obedience faithfully moves forward…
We can possess this kind of faith…it comes from God. There is a great principle here: God will provide.
Over the years God’s provisions have come in different sizes and surprising shapes such as a much wanted grandchild and getting two! As I look at our magnificent Catalina Mountains, I am reminded “On the mountain of the Lord, it will be provided.” (v. 14b).
This chapter is two-fold: God’s provision and our obedience brings a blessing when you withhold not a single thing from the Lord. (v. 15-18). An interesting aside: Curiously and in contrast with Abraham’s only son Isaac, the chapter concludes with the 12 sons born to Abraham’s brother Nahor…
How will you respond today? What provisions has God made in your life? Where are you withholding from God? What about your finances? Your love? Your child? Your spouse? Your health?
Dear Lord. Help me as I seek to be obedient. Help me to see You in all things. You are Almighty, Magnificent and truly benevolent. “Great is Thy Faithfulness, Lord unto me.” (Chisholm, T.O. Chicago: Hope, 1923).
