Read : Psalm 46
Thoughts from: Phillip Conway
As I meditate on Psalm 46, I quickly come to an understanding that we are many times, so helpless in this world we live. We do fear and even fear for our lives when we face life’s disasters, raging fires, hurricanes in our path to rivers rising waters that we must cross, and wars and rumors of wars. But we have no power to control these calamities. We seek peace in this world, but we must come to an understanding in finding peace we must look to our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Psalm proclaims that “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” did you hear those words, present help… in present troubles. “Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains are moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.”
Is our God close? Not only is he with us, but he is our fortress, our “Lord of Host”, who has at his disposal an army of angelic soldiers, he is a warrior, mighty in battle, but also the conductor of the entirety of all creation, our God of Host sustains everything by his powerful word.
What are your troubles you face in life? These troubles are so common to us all, but how personal they become as we walk in those deep waters. Our Lord of Host, our warrior, the prince of peace, the sustainer of all things is asking us to relinquish are very being, our troubles into his hands, faith and trust given to our Creator. Amen!
