From Pastor John –
A summary of remarks I made to the congregation on January 3rd.
This coming February 14th. will mark the 35th anniversary of NWBC. Carol and I began this adventure of faith with a handful of pioneer families who wanted to be used of God to establish a Christ honoring, Bible centered church in Northwest Tucson.
As most of you know, we have been in the process of selecting someone to become the next lead pastor. As was announced on December 27th., the Transition Team and elders have made the decision to bring Jeff Thune here for a week to candidate, which includes preaching on January 24th.
Carol and I have also made a decision. My last Sunday as your pastor will be February 14th. We made this decision because I need to be preparing for what God has in store for us next. This does not mean we are planning to leave NWBC, but it does mean we are making way for the man of God’s choosing.
I join with the elders in recommending Jeff Thune as a candidate for this position. It is a decision the members of NWBC will ultimately make – so I encourage you to attend the Town Hall meeting this coming Sunday, January 10 as well as check out the website that will be provided regarding Jeff’s resume and sermons, so you can be better prepared for his coming.
My decision to step down is an emotional one – not being your pastor will be a challenging change for Carol and me. We covet your prayers that the Lord would give us wisdom in discerning His will for us going forward.
This church has had a rock solid testimony in our community – a true family to so many through the years. I believe the Lord holds this church close to His heart and that He will continue to use us to draw many people to the Savior.
Looking back with deep gratitude for the honor of serving Jesus and you, looking forward to seeing everyone next Sunday!
